Theo Fox: Whisker Pole A look at the Alex DeBrincat trade that the Blackhawks reportedly rejected.

Plus, quick thoughts on Kyle Davidson not forcing transactions, Derek King's status with the organization, and buyouts.

Can Seth be moved before his new contract kicks in, as is what happened with Richards and Carter in Philly? And when does that new contract kick in?

Any word on which goalie will be resigned (if either will)?

Hey LA i think the pick the Avs got with Ottawas pick was Byram not Makar, as i recall Sakic was pissed he literally lost the lottery and was picking 4th. Sometimes things work out for the best.

Although I can't find the exact date but I believe Jones' new contract and NMC have kicked in already. I could be wrong so anyone can feel free to correct me.

Nothing I have seen or heard yet on the goalie front.

For the record, Soderblom and Stauber are the only goalies signed to NHL contracts at this point in time.

I imagine Theo it kicks in once teams can begin negotiating with players who only have one year left, like this year it would be Cat, Kane Toews and that probably doesn't happen until FA season starts

I plan to have a draft preview on July 5. Just waiting to see if any trades go down where the Hawks get back into the 1st round.

If anything happens during the holiday weekend, I will do what I can to write up on it by the next morning.

It took less than 24 hours for the two sides to reach a verbal agreement on a max contract that will pay LaVine $215.2 million over the next five years.
And we think Jones' contract is bad.

Funny now reading if Salic did get #1 he was going to select Heiskenen, which would of been a great choice too. Seems #1 and 2 Heishier and Patrick (NJ and Philly) have really underperformed

I like "Cat" but the only way we're getting multiple 1st round picks is if Stan somehow gets hired somewhere in the NHL and makes the trade for him.

Hawks and Wings were the only teams to select a new face as coach, I believe.

Still alot of old boys around for next year's hires - Julien, Vigneault, Trotz, Tochett, maybe Q plus whoever gets fired this season.

Well if Richardson is not ready to be a NHL coach because of lack of experience, then Yzerman really made a mistake with Lalonde. Plus it looks like when he played, he was a Goalie. How many coaches that won the Stanley Cup were goalies?

BTW I read an article somewhere that Q has put out feelers to get back in the league, and Bettman basically said not as long as he is Commissioner

In your draft preview I am curious if you go along with the consensus viewpoint, which is to draft best player available.

Our biggest need is probably a top line calbre center

Each team could prest a wish list of the style players they want to draft. The Blackhawks need skilled goal scorers. They woukd benefit from a top six firward with skill and grit. And despite several promising dmen, a sure fire top pairing and a top offensuve dman like Maker or Heskanen (on Dallas) represent players we surely need

At one time I wondered if Chucago acquired two furst round picks, would the gamble on the small Russian whom Wiz has pointed out is a possible steal He may also not leave Russia

And beyond the words and thoughts you put forth in the draft preview, thank you for churning out well thought out articulate columns the enture year with the bonus Rockford review

Ehhhhh.

When healthy LaVine is really good. And its not like the Bulls had any other options and they didn't give anything up other then money. They are still a playoff team which the Hawks clearly weren't. Other than to the GM and Kane and Toews apparently. Certainly not to Duncan Keith who begged for a trade.

And money wise - Jones is probably close to what his on ice value is. Maybe he's over paid by 750k. Not really a major complaint.

The issue I have with Jones - and what most people should have with that deal - are the assets that were given up when the team wasn't really close to being good unless all the stars aligned and Asclepius himself descended from Mt Olympus to restore Jonathan Toews and Tyler Johnson to their 25 year old healthy states and accelerated the knee recovery and confidence of Jake McCabe. Not to mention Kirby Dach becoming a dominating 2 way center with little to no evidence that is his ceiling as well as one of the puck movers banished to Rockford taking on a larger role and a step forward with the big club.

I dunno how you call a 60 point over 70 game player under performing. Even if he's not a superstar he's at least an important piece. Which are needed.

Pretty solid 1 - 2 punch with Hughes.

Patrick definitely having issues getting traction and the Clarke comments about Hextall are pretty funny. Gotta wonder if that was how Stan operated.

Bad wording fatty. What I meant to convey is #3 and #4 have performed better (at least so far) as #1 and 2.
